First Journal Post

The start to this semester is not like any other semester I have had, it’s all been virtual and has all been from the comfort of my own. This pandemic has given me a unique first semester at a 4 year college that I feel has taken away from the experience. While I can still communicate with all my professors via email or through Canvas, I don’t have that face to face interaction when I can ask questions in the moment, or hear other students’ questions that I didn’t know I needed to know the answer too. It has caused me to look at the class material more closely on my own and lead to more self exploration.

In my JMS 220 class specifically, I have read more of the textbook than I ever have in my other classes. I have used the AP style book every time I write for the class and am constantly worried that I am writing something wrong. It has allowed me to learn if this style of writing has been different than the other writings that I have done so far. The lectures have been very insightful and have helped me to understand the textbook readings better. The labs have been a great way for me to practice what I am learning and get feedback on things that I can improve on. I can confidently say that this is my favorite class this semester and because of that the class that I put the most effort in, but I shouldn’t be surprised this is what I want to do with my life.
